About Me

I grew up playing piano, classical percussion and oboe while at school. Graduating from Leeds College of Music in 1981 with a Graduate Diploma (GPLM) and a performance diploma from the Royal Academy of Music (LRAM) I completed a post-graduate certificate in education at Bretton Hall College (now West Yorkshire Sculpture Park). After a period teaching for Wakefield Education Council, I trained as a software engineer, which I have continued throughout my working life.

Throughout the 80s and 90s I mostly performed on drums, or keyboards, with a mixture of rock and jazz groups, before discovering a love of Bluegrass in 2005. After becoming involved with the creation of the Bluegrass College tuition site, I started to learn the Double Bass, and completed several courses at both Sore Fingers Summer School (UK) and Rocky Grass Bluegrass Academy (Colorado).

I now perform mainly on Double Bass, as well as playing drums with Otley Brass Band. As a trained teacher, I give lessons on Double and Electric bass, as well as piano, Drums, and Music Theory in my studio at home. I can also come to your home , or give lessons on line.
